UW-Green Bay, Milwaukee both Advance in Horizon League tourney

- Both UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee won their first round games in the Horizon League Tournament Tuesday evening.

The UW-Green Bay men advanced to the second round of the Horizon League Tournament with an 81-67 home victory over Youngstown State. The third-seeded Phoenix took control with a 10-0 run midway through the second half. Bryquis Perine led Green Bay with 21 points, and Rahmon Fletcher added 16. Kelvin Bright scored 22 for 10th-seeded Youngstown State, which ends its season at 8-22 overall. Green Bay improves to 21-11, and will play seventh-seeded Detroit on Friday night in Indianapolis. Detroit advanced with an 89-82 win over number-six Valparaiso.

The UW-Milwaukee men scored a 73-67 home victory over Illinois-Chicago in their first-round Horizon League tournament game. The Flames were within two with 23 seconds left, but James Eayrs made four free throws down the stretch to give Milwaukee is sixth straight victory. Eayrs had 12 points and 10 rebounds for UWM, which has the fourth seed in the tourney. The Panthers made 28-of-38 free throws, while ninth-seeded Illinois-Chicago was just 12-of-17 from the line. Robo Kreps scored 20 for UIC, which lost its third straight to the Panthers and ended its season at 8-22 overall. Milwaukee is now 19-13, and will play fifth-seeded Cleveland State in the second round on Friday night. Cleveland State advanced with an 80-66 victory over eighth-seeded Loyola.
