Twins lose Grapefruit League opener to Red Sox

(The Sports Network) - Mark Wagner singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, as the Boston Red Sox took a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins in both teams' Grapefruit League opener.
Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-3, including an RBI single in the sixth inning, for the Red Sox. Josh Beckett got the start and allowed one run on two hits in two innings, and struck out one.
Joe Nelson struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory.
Nick Blackburn gave up just one hit over two innings in the start for the Twins. Jose Lugo allowed the run in the eighth to take the loss, while Jason Kubel drove in Minnesota's lone run.
The Twins did not play Joe Mauer or Justin Morneau in last night's spring training opener against Boston. The two star Minnesota players will make their 2010 Grapefruit League debuts in today's home opener for the Twins in Ft. Myers. In addition, newcomers Jim Thome, J.J. Hardy, and Orlando Hudson will play for the first time as Twins today.
