Gopher women's hoops team loses in Big Ten tourney

- A disappointing season ended yesterday for the University of Minnesota women's basketball team. Penn State beat the Golden Gophers 63-52 in the opening round of the women's Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS - A disappointing season ended yesterday for the University of Minnesota women's basketball team. Penn State beat the Golden Gophers 63-52 in the opening round of the women's Big Ten Tournament at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Tyra Grant scored 15 points, all in the second half to lead the Nittany Lions in scoring while the U was led in scoring by China Antione with 12 points. The game was tied 27-27b at halftime.

The loss closes out a season that began with high hopes and ended with a last-place finish in the conference. Minnesota finishes the year with a 13-17 record, the first losing season for the Gophers in nine years.
