MESA, Ariz. - The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 5-to-3 yesterday in an exhibition contest in Mesa Arizona.

Joe Inglett broke a ninth-inning tie with a two-run homer off Blake Parker. Jody Gerut hit an RBI double, and Prince Fielder had a run-scoring single. Derrek Lee homered off Jeff Suppan to lead off the Cubs’ third inning.

It was the first run given up by a Milwaukee starter in six spring contests. Suppan gave up three runs on five hits in his three-inning stint. The start of the game was delayed 48 minutes by rain. And it was 43 degrees at the start of the contest in the Cubs’ spring ballpark – six degrees cooler than it was in Chicago at the time.

Milwaukee third baseman Mat Gamel missed the game with a lingering sore shoulder. He’s expected to be out until at least the weekend. The Brewers are now 3-and-3 in Cactus League play. They’ll take on San Diego this afternoon, with Yovani Gallardo starting for the Brew Crew.
