Marquette went in front for good with 1:11 to go, when David Cubillan hit a three-pointer. And the Eagles hung on despite missing its final three shots from the free-throw line.

Lazar Hayward led Marquette with 20 points and nine rebounds. D-J Kennedy and Sean Evans each had 12 for Saint John’s, which dropped its 11th straight game to the Eagles and ended its season at 17-and-15.

Fifth-seeded Marquette improved to 21-and-10. Today, they’ll face a fourth-seeded Villanova squad that beat the Eagles twice in the regular season by a total of four points. The tip-off is scheduled for 1:25.
