Padres defeat Milwaukee in Cactus League play

PEORIA, Ariz. - A San Diego split-squad team beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-to-4 yesterday in exhibition baseball in Peoria Arizona.

Will Venable hit a three-run homer in the first-inning off Brewers’ starter Yovani Gallardo, who gave up two hits and two walks in three innings. Alcides Escobar hit a double and an RBI single for Milwaukee. Gregg Zaun and Lorenzo Cain also had two hits apiece, as the Brewers dropped to 3-4 in Cactus League play.

Today, the Brewers will play split-squad games against Oakland and Cincinnati. Randy Wolf will start against the A’s, and Chris Narveson will start for Milwaukee against the Reds.
