Eagles edge out Villanova, will play Georgetown in the semis

NEW YORK - Marquette will take on Georgetown this evening in the semi-finals of the Big East men’s basketball tournament in New York.
The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles improved to 22-and-10 after an 80-76 quarter-final win yesterday over number-four Villanova. Lazar Hayward put Marquette in front for good by hitting a three-pointer with 1:51 left. Darius Johnson-Odom had career-highs of 24 points and five treys.
Villanova, which is ranked 10th in the country, fell to 24-7. Marquette now gets ready to face the 22nd-ranked Hoyas, who have the eighth-seed. Georgetown upset top-seeded Syracuse to make the semis.
Marquette and Georgetown played each other once in the regular season, with the Golden Eagles coming out on top 62-59. David Cubillan went six-for-six from three-point range in that contest.
