Cold shooting Badgers catch fire too late, lose to Illini

- At one point, Illinois led by 16, 46-30, but a furious rally by Wisconsin made it close, cutting their lead to two at 56-54.

INDIANAPOLIS - Illinois had been struggling, but the Illini had enough to knock Wisconsin out of the Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in a first-round game Friday, 58-54.

Illinois faces fifth-seeded Ohio State today. Mike Tisdale scored 21 points in Friday's upset win over the 13th-ranked Badgers. Illinois beat Wisconsin twice in three meetings this season.

Trevon Hughes and Jon Leuer each scored 14 points in the loss. Wisconsin will make the NCAA Tournament field any way with its 23-8 record. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak and kept coach Bo Ryan from getting the 600th victory of his career.
