Brett Favre apparently played a big role in trying to get LaDainian Tomlinson to join the Minnesota Vikings. The former San Diego running back visited Minnesota last week. But the Vikings lost out when Tomlinson signed with the New York Jets in a two-year deal worth five-million dollars.

New York’s Newsday said Favre, the former Packers’ quarterback, did his best to persuade Tomlinson to sign with the Vikes. But the New York Daily News speculated that Tomlinson “shied away” because he wasn’t sure Favre would return next season. But actually, Tomlinson is expected to get more playing time with New York as a complement to Jets’ second-year running back Shonn Greene.

At Minnesota, Tomlinson could have been a third-down back, and a back-up to Adrian Peterson.
