SAN JOSE, Calf. - The Marquette men’s basketball team was the first of eight to arrive in San Jose to get ready for tomorrow’s NCAA first round games.

The sixth-seeded Golden Eagles will face number-11 Washington at 6:20 tomorrow night. Coach Buzz Williams had his Eagles practicing yesterday at San Jose City College, before a public workout that’s scheduled today at the arena where they’ll play.

Marquette and Washington have never faced each other. But Eagles’ senior forward Lazar Hayward gave his teammates and coaches the inside scoop about the Huskies’ top player, senior forward Quincy Pondexter. Both were on the U-S team for last summer’s World University Games. Pondexter leads Washington in both scoring and rebounding, with 20 points and seven-and-a-half boards per game. Washington comes in at 24-9. Marquette is 22-11.
