PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Stillwater's Glen Perkins allowed two runs on five hits in his first start of the Grapefruit League season for the Twins, who fell to the Rays 5-2 yesterday.

In four outings this spring, Perkins has an earned run average of ten-point-five-oh, while opponents are batting .464 against him. Perkins did say his arm is feeling stronger every time he pitches. He was bothered by shoulder soreness for much of last season and was demoted from the starting rotation.

Jason Kubel had two hits yesterday while Luke Hughes had a home run and scored twice. The Twins play the Pirates today in Fort Myers with Carl Pavano getting his fourth start of the spring. He has one win and an ERA of three-point-three-eight.
