ST. PAUL - Chuck Kobasew scored twice and Josh Harding made 29 saves to help the Wild edge Calgary 4-3 yesterday at the Xcel Energy Center. The Wild are tied for 11th place in the NHL Western Conference playoff standings, seven points behind Detroit for the final postseason spot.
The Wild trailed 1-0 when Andrew Brunette and Guilleaum Latendresse scored to close out the first period. Kobasew scored both of his goals in the second period, and the Wild survived a late surge by the Flames, who would have tied the Red Wings for eighth place in the conference with a win. The Wild play San Jose tomorrow in Saint Paul then travel to Philadelphia on Thursday and Detroit on Friday. The Wild have ten games left in the regular season.
Calgary Flames forward Daymond Langkow left Sunday's game on a stretcher with injuries to his upper and lower body.
Langkow left the game on a stretcher with a little less than 5 1/2 minutes played in the second period after a bizarre play in the slot. As he was hit in the back by Wild defenseman Greg Zanon, Langkow fell forward head first, and while falling, was struck with the full force of a hard shot by White in the neck.
The veteran pivot was motionless on the ice for several minutes before being transported to a local hospital for observation, where he regained motion in all extremities after having no feeling for a time in his legs.
