The Milwaukee Brewers’ starting rotation is coming into focus.
Manager Ken Macha has re-affirmed that Yovani Gallardo, Randy Wolf, and Doug Davis will be his first three starters. Gallardo is likely to start on Opening Day April fifth, but Macha has not confirmed it yet. He said the fourth starter is closer to being nailed down. It’s likely to be veteran Dave Bush, who has had a solid spring. Macha said Jeff Suppan and Manny Parra are being considered for the number-five spot – and the fifth person probably won’t pitch in the regular season until April 14th-or-15th.
Macha said each starter will get an extra day of rest as spring training winds down, to keep them fresh for the start of the season. Chris Narveson is the seventh starting candidate – and he’s likely to go to the bullpen once the season begins. Macha has said he wants to keep all seven pitchers, to give him the depth the Brewers did not have a year ago.
