Championship games set after Friday's semis at WIAA state tourney

Action continued at the WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament in Madison Friday with the field set for Saturday's championship games.

MADISON - Oostburg will play top-ranked Cuba City tomorrow for the girls’ state high school Division-Three basketball title. Oostburg defeated Osseo-Fairchild 64-43 and Cuba City eliminated Brillion 56-40 in their divisional semi-finals at the Kohl Center Friday.

Oostburg won on the strength of a 15-0 run in the first and second quarters. Julie Raeder had 27 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Oostburg, which improved to 24-and-4. Raeder made 11 of 15 shots from the floor, as her team out-shot Osseo-Fairchild 59-to-31 percent. Caitlin Featherman and Letaya Mulhern each scored 15 for Osseo-Fairchild, which ends its season at 26-2.

In other tourney results, Winneconne No. 1 ranked Monroe 31-30 to advance to the Division 2 tourney final to face New Berlin Eisenhower, which edged Altoona 40-38. In Division 1, Piux XI won the contest between two Milwaukee schools as the Popes edged Vincent 63-58. They will take on No.1 ranked De Pere, which took care of Wausau West 56-38 in the other D-1 semifinal.

Championship Saturday will lead off with the Division 4 finals at noon where Black Hawk faces off against Wausau Newman.
