INDIANAPOLIS - Milwaukee native Korie Lucious says it’s a dream to be a starter for Michigan State, as the Spartans head into their second straight NCAA Final Four.

The sophomore who played at Milwaukee Pius XI was pressed into service when point guard Kalin Lucas went out for the season with an injury against Maryland in the second round of the tournament.

Michigan State is getting ready to face home-town Butler in Saturday’s first national semi-final in Indianapolis. And the Spartans have not missed a beat with Lucious in the lineup. He had 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the Sweet-16 victory over Northern Iowa. And Lucious played a key defensive role last Sunday against Tennessee, with five steals to help his team win the Midwest Regional. He only shot 2-for-9 in that game, but he says he does whatever he can to help the Spartans win – including defense and distributing the ball. Lucious said he was devastated with Lucas went down, but he had to step up and become the so-called second coach on the court.

Michigan State is 28-8 going into Saturday’s semi-final. They’ll face a Butler team that’s 32-4, with a 24-game winning streak.
