State collegiate sports notes: River Falls' Giebel names WIAC Player of the Week
Wisconsin News- Brian Giebel of U-W Stout is the WIAC’s baseball position player-of-the-week.
Brian Giebel of UW-Stout is the WIAC’s baseball position player-of-the-week. Kyle Kannenberg of UW-Oshkosh is the league’s top pitcher.
Giebel, a junior center-fielder, batted .417 in six games in Florida last week with a homer, four doubles, three RBI’s, and 11 runs scored. His slugging percentage was .792.
Giebel also plays for the River Falls Fighting Fish in St. Croix Valley League play.
Kannenberg, a senior right-hander, had and a win and a save against two Minnesota schools at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. He pitched nine innings in the two contests, and gave up a combined two unearned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
The UW-Milwaukee baseball team has won 15 straight games at home dating back to last year. That’s after the Panthers won their first two home contests this spring – a double-header yesterday against Division UW-Parkside. Milwaukee took the opener 6-2 and the night-cap 10-4. Junior Sam Sivilotti drove in a career-high four runs in the second game, and he drove in two with a triple in the opener. UWM improved to 7-13 on the year. Parkside fell to 9-18.
