Wisconsin’s allergy is off to a sniffling start

Wisconsin’s allergy season is off and running.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation says Madison is the nation’s fourth-worst city among the 100 places it analyzed for spring allergies.

Pollen from ash, maple, birch, and box-elder trees is being spread now. Mold and ragweed normally come along in August and September.

But last year’s heavy rains caused mold allergies to flare up from June on.

The Wisconsin State Journal says there are three current research projects in Madison that can help allergy sufferers.

One would develop a blood test to diagnose allergies. Another study is trying to develop oral drops for treatment.

And the third project involves the use of inhalers with GPS technology, to help asthma sufferers find and avoid the worst locations for getting attacks.
