TOWN OF MARTELL—Both Dianna Fiergola and Harriette Johnson have worked at the Red Barn Café, northeast of Ellsworth, previously.

Both were employees of the original owners of the outlet, which also includes a convenience store-and-station. For Johnson, it was as recently as January of this year. For Fiergola, it was her first job.

Now, the mother and daughter have teamed to reopen the restaurant and its associated banquet hall, which were closed early last month, effective this week.

“In its 25 years, the café had never been closed until then,” Fiergola said Friday, calling the month which has elapsed since “a long time” for area bachelors and others who’ve come to rely on the business for their meals.
