MINNEAPOLIS - Reserve forward Paul Carter is transferring out of the University of Minnesota men's basketball program.
Carter has one year of eligibility left and says he wants to be closer to his 14-year-old sister Bria, who's suffering from a rare form of bone cancer. In the middle of this past season, Carter and his Gopher teammates all shaved their heads in support of his sister.
Carter is originally from Los Angeles, but his sister now lives with their family in Chicago. In two seasons with the Gophers after transferring in from Missouri State-West Plains junior college,
Carter averaged five points and four rebounds per game. The Gophers have five scholarships available for next season.
