John E. “Jack” Ortwerth, age 80, of River Falls, formerly of Ellsworth, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital.
He was born May 16, 1929, to Joseph and Sarah (Pfingsten) Ortwerth. John worked for many years at Deiss Nugent Feed Company and then worked for the Village of Ellsworth Sewer/Disposal Plant.
John enjoyed fishing. He loved to smoke cigars; this was his trademark. He was known for BBQ-ing his famous chicken and he also loved playing cards.
John is survived by his significant other, Bonnie Gerdes; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Bud) Ortwerth and Judy (Jim) Ortwerth; and further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Brunner, Bud Ortwerth, Jim Ortwerth, Edna Brunner, and Francis Lubich.
A Memorial Mass for John will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth with Father Roy Witucki officiating. Interment will be in Clayfield Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday.
