MINNEAPOLIS - Former Wisconsin center Greg Stiemsma has signed with the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves through next season.

The team confirmed the signing on Twitter yesterday, after Stiemsma’s agent broke the news Monday.

The Wolves have only one more game this year, as they wrap up a disastrous 15-66 campaign at home tonight against Detroit. Stiemsma spent most of this season with Sioux Falls of the NBA Developmental League. He averaged nine points, seven points, and three-and-a-half blocked shots.

Stiemsma is a native of Randolph, and his signing allows him to compete in the NBA’s Summer League, with a chance to make Minnesota’s pre-season roster in the fall.

Stiemsma is the second for UW player to sign with the Timberwolves recently. Alando Tucker signed a brief contract with the team before being released.
