Wild, Thompson decide to part ways

ST. PAUL - Minnesota Wild assistant general manager Tommy Thompson won't stay on with the team after his contract expires at the end of June.

Thompson was with the Wild for 11 years, and was one of the few survivors from last year's front-office housecleaning. General manager Chuck Fletcher kept Thompson on, but eventually gave most of his duties to assistant GM Brent Flahr.

The 56-year-old Thompson was hired in 1999 as the Wild's top scout and promoted to assistant general manager three years later. Many of the Wild's draft picks have made it to the NHL, but Thompson has come under fire in recent years for the organization's lack of young talent.
