EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - The Vikings added much-needed depth to their defensive backfield yesterday by signing cornerback Lito Sheppard to a one-year, two-million dollar contract.
Sheppard played college football at Florida and has put in eight seasons in the NFL, the first seven with the Philadelphia Eagles and last year with the New York Jets. The Vikings need help at cornerback with Cedric Griffin and Antoine Winfield coming off injuries. Griffin tore the ACL in his left knee during the NFC championship game loss to New Orleans and it's not known when he'll be able to play again. Winfield was bothered by a broken foot for much of last season.
Tonight starts the NFL Draft and the Vikings have the 30th overall selection in the first round.
