Vikings trade first round pick, load up with late round picks

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - The Vikings came away from the first round of the NFL Draft with no new players and a few extra picks.
Three hours after the draft started, the Vikings traded their first-round selection to the Detroit Lions, who used that 30th overall pick to take California running back Javit Best.
The Vikings also gave the Lions their fourth-round pick in exchange for Detroit's picks in the second, fourth and seventh round. That second round selection is the second pick in today's second round.
The Vikings now have nine picks over the final six rounds of the draft, and player personnel director Rick Spielman says that gives them far more flexibility. He says having the second pick in the second round, and 34th selection overall, is a huge deal for the Vikings.
