Ruth (Johnson) Klein, 91, of Ellsworth, Wis., died Saturday evening, April 24, 2010, at Ellsworth Care Center.

Ruth was born on Sept. 26, 1918, on a Pierce County farm owned by her father and mother, John and Bertha Johnson. She was the loving wife of Oliver (Punk) Klein and the mother of eight children.

She was much loved and appreciated by her children and grandchildren for her love and concern for them and her helpful ways, putting them before her wants and desires. Ruth was a lifelong homemaker - well known by family and friends for her skills in the kitchen. Homemade doughnuts, lemon pies, and always for holidays the Norwegian lefse and goodies, were part of family tradition. Ruth, an avid Scrabble player, especially enjoyed playing a competitive game with her daughters and very special niece, Peg Haster.

Surviving are seven children, Barbara (Gary) Herum of Dubuque, Iowa, Patricia (Maurice) Wasserman of St. Cloud, Minn., Joan (Larry) DeGross of Ellsworth, Richard Klein of Ellsworth, Carol (Mike) Ehlert of North Branch, Minn., Jeffrey (Cindy) Klein of Ellsworth, and Donald (Kathy) Klein of River Falls, Wis.; nine grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Klein, and a son, Walter Klein.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
