MILWAUKEE - The Marquette men’s basketball team has added Virginia high school post player Davante Gardner to its freshman class for this fall. The 6-8, 295-pound Gardner is from King’s Fork High School in Suffolk.
He averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots in his senior year. Gardner chose Marquette over South Florida. Penn State and Maryland also showed an interest.
Gardner is the sixth member of the Golden Eagles’ recruiting class – and it gives Marquette one more scholarship player than its total allotment of 13. Media reports say one of the six freshmen will go to a prep school this fall, but it’s not known who it will be.
