Ellsworth tennis shutout by Eau Claire Regis

Eau Claire Regis is one of the best prep boys' tennis teams in the state and they showed why Tuesday as they shutout Ellsworth 7-0.

EAU CLAIRE - Eau Claire Regis is one of the best prep boys' tennis teams in the state and they showed why Tuesday as they shutout Ellsworth 7-0.

The Ramblers are ranked No. 9 in the state in Division 2. They are currently in first place in the Middle Border Conference.

"That's a very good team," Panthers coach Casey Keller said. "They have all their starters from last year returning."

Senior Dylan Greske won the most games among Ellsworth's participants. He lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

Sophomore Adam Lee lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and classmate Nick Rheil lost by an identical score at No. 3 singles.

Lee was facing senior Kyle Seyer who has advanced to the Division 2 singles state tournament each of the past two seasons.

Junior Brady Hines lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At No. 1 doubles, senior Jeff Stress and sophomore Parker Johnson lost 6-0, 6-1 against senior Ryan Kozuch and junior Steven Hafacker.

"They were actually very excited about that one game," Keller said. The team they played were state qualifiers last year."

Chris Schwarzhoff, a junior, and Andy Roland lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles while the No. 3 doubles team of junior Garrett Burgess and freshman Isaac Claesson fell 6-1, 6-0.

Ellsworth is off until May 14 when it travels to Lake City. The Panthers complete Middle Border Conference play with an 0-6 record. Ellsworth is 1-7 overall.
