Edward J. Pelzel, age 62 of Elmwood, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie.
Ed was born December 10, 1947, in Plum City. He was the son of Edward L. and Oliva (Lecheler) Pelzel. He grew up in the Elmwood area and graduated from Elmwood High School. After school, Ed went to work in St. Paul at the Gillette Razor Factory. Ed married Nancy Hammond in May 6, 1972, at Sacred Heart in Elmwood. Ed worked at the Gillette Company for 34 years before retiring in 2000.
Ed enjoyed spending time at the cabin up north and fishing. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Elmwood Fire Department for 10 years and a member of the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post #207. Most of all, Ed enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Ed is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy; one son, Tracy (Jennifer) of Spring Valley; two grandchildren, Cole and Sara, both at home; his mother, Oliva Pelzel of Elmwood; four brothers, Terry (Denise) of Plum City, Dan (Sue) of Elmwood, Jeff (Shawn Scheels) of Spring Valley and Roger (Sheila) of Hudson; two sisters, Pat Peterson of River Falls and Kathy (Bruce) Dehnke of Fall Creek; mother-in-law, Nellie Moen of Elmwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward L. Pelzel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. Rev. Varkey V. Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by Crain-Ottman American Legion Post #207. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
