June 24-28 introduced 22 4-H members from across Wisconsin to the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational competition.
This is the third year for the Wisconsin 4-H program to send team members to this national event.
Locally, Allison Seibel, daughter of Sharon and Joe Seibel, Ellsworth, competed in the 2009 national competition at Grand Island, Neb.
Each year, nearly 500 4-H members throughout the U.S. converge on one city for four days of top competition in one of the following 4-H project disciplines: Archery, Muzzleloader, Rifle, Air Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol.
Seibel competed in Nebraska in Air Rifle, along with 65 other competitors. She finished 22nd overall, along with a fifth place finish for the Wisconsin team in the silhouette competition.
Wisconsin 4-H members achieve eligibility by posting the top four discipline scores in statewide 4-H Shooting Sports competition annually. Participants must also be enrolled in their county 4-H Shooting Sports program and must be between the ages of 15–19 to represent the Wisconsin 4-H National Team.
Each four-person team is coached by an adult 4-H leader certified in the discipline they are coaching. The coach for Seibel’s team was Joe Seibel from Pierce County.
