BOSTON - Jon Lester went the distance as the Red Sox completed a two-game sweep of the Twins with a 6-2 win at Fenway Park last night.

Lester, who improved to 6-and-2, allowed one run on six hits while striking out nine and walking none. Kevin Youkilis belted a three-run homer and finished with four RBI. Francisco Liriano dropped to 4-and-3 after permitting five runs and five hits over four-and-two-thirds.

Delmon Young and Joe Mauer plated the runs for Minnesota, which was 2-and-5 on the East Coast road trip and is now tied for first place with Detroit in the American League Central Division.

After last night's loss, the Twins promoted shortstop Trevor Plouffe from Class AAA Rochester. He will be in uniform for Friday's home game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Target Field. Plouffe's first game action will be his Major League debut. In 38 games with Rochester, he is hitting .308 with four home runs and 21 runs batted in. He was the club's first round draft choice in 2004. To make room on the roster for Plouffe, the Twins optioned right-handed relief pitcher Jeff Manship to Rochester.
