Sean Larson won the NCAA Division III national championship in the discus with a school-record throw at the national meet in Cleveland Saturday.

Larson beat the school record with his second throw in the prelims. His winning throw was 174-10, two feet better than runner-up Judd Lutz of Mt. Union.

This was the final meet of Larson's collegiate track and field career and he already earned All-American status by finishing fourth in the hammer throw. He was seeded sixth in the discus before the meet. The points Larson scored helped Stout to ninth place finish in the team standings, it's best showing in nearly 15 years.

Also on Saturday, Ellsworth's Morgan Place competed in the 5000-meter run in the NCAA Division II meet in Charlotte. She finished 16th with a time of 17:17.72. Place herself had tied University of Minnesota-Duluth's record for number of women's All-American awards with six after finishing seventh in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday.
