SEATTLE - Home runs by Delmon Young, Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel and seven strikeouts by Francisco Liriano helped the Twins to a 5-4 win last night at Seattle to start a seven-game road trip.
The Twins never trailed to win their fifth straight game and push their lead over second-place Detroit to four-and-a-half games in the AL Central. Liriano struggled but made it through six innings, allowing eight hits and walking none to raise his record to five-and-three. Jesse Crain and Matt Guerrier each pitched a scoreless inning, and Jon Rauch close the door for his 13th save. The Twins took the lead on Cuddyer's run-scoring single and Young's two-run homer, while Cuddyer and Kubel had back-to-back home runs in the fifth, all off Seattle starter Doug Fister.
The Twins and Mariners play game two of their four-game series tonight at Safeco Field, with Nick Blackburn facing Seattle starter Jason Vargas.
