SEATTLE - Ryan Langerhans scored from second base on Ichiro Suzuki's infield hit in the tenth inning to give Seattle a 2-1 win over the Twins last night at Safeco Field. Twins second baseman Matt Tolbert backhanded the grounder hit by Suzuki, but his toss to second base for a attempted force play on Josh Wilson was ruled too late.

Langerhans never broke stride to give the Mariners their first extra-innings win of the season. The Twins' only run scored on a solo homer by Michael Cuddyer in the seventh inning off Mariners' starter Cliff Lee. Cuddyer had a chance to put the Twins ahead in the ninth, but lined out to shortstop with a runner on third base.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says umpire Dale Scott blew the call. Gardenhire says Tolbert made the right play, and the replay shows the throw to second base was in time. The loss was the second straight for the Twins, who close out their four-game series against the Mariners tonight.

Seattle's first run came when Milton Bradley singled, stole second and third, and came around on Casey Kotchman's sacrifice fly. Kevin Slowey pitched seven strong innings for the Twins, with Matt Guerrier taking the loss in the tenth.

The Twins placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the bereavement list following the death of his father-in-law. Cuddyer left the team after last night's loss in Seattle for the funeral services in Virginia. Taking Cuddyer's place on the roster is outfielder Danny Valencia who was batting .292 with no homers and 24 runs batted in for Class Triple-A Rochester. Cuddyer is expected to miss four games, and would rejoin the team in time for Tuesday's homestand opener against Kansas City. Valencia was the Twins' 19th-round selection in the 2006 first-year player draft.
