ST. PAUL - Former first-round draft pick James Sheppard signed a one-year contract extension with the Wild yesterday.

The deal pays Sheppard just over $800,000, and it comes after he had a disappointing season with just two goals and four assists in 64 games. The Wild also tendered qualifying offers to five players, including forward Guillaume Latendresse and goaltender Josh Harding.

The Wild cut former fourth-round draft pick Morten Madsen, who never made it out of the minor leagues. Also let go was defenseman Jamie Fraser, who played last season with the Wild's AHL affiliate in Houston.
