Rain alters schedule at state softball tournament

MADISON - Rainy weather in Madison forced the Division 2 semifinals to be played Saturday morning with the finals at 5 p.m.

Here are yesterday's semifinal scores and today's finals as follows:

WIAA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOFTBALL

--Division 1 Championship Game

Mequon Homestead (23-3) v. Kaukauna (27-2), 7:30 p.m.

--Division 2 Semifinal Games

Luxemburg-Casco (18-9) v. Fort Atkinson (22-4), 8 a.m.

Rice Lake (18-9) v. Union Grove (25-3), 10 a.m.

--Division 2 Championship Game

Luxemburg-Casco / Fort Atkinson winner v. Rice Lake / Union Grove winner, 5 p.m.

--Division 3 Semifinals

Peshtigo 9, Lancaster 3

Winnebago Lutheran 4, Arcadia 1

--Division 3 Championship Game

Peshtigo (20-4) v. Winnebago Lutheran (18-5), 2:30 p.m.

--Division 4 Semifinals

Tigerton 7, Potosi 3

Racine Lutheran 4, Hurley 1

Tigerton (20-3) v. Racine Lutheran (21-8), 12 noon

Tigerton and Racine Lutheran will compete for the Division-Four state high school softball championship tomorrow. Both teams advanced today after winning their semi-finals. Erin Ortner threw a no-hitter, but she walked eight and tossed a wild pitch as Tigerton defeated Potosi 7-3. Tigerton committed three errors, and Ortner struck out a division-record 17 batters. In the other semi-final, Racine Lutheran eliminated Hurley 4-1. Hurley committed a division-record seven errors, and Lutheran put together six straight hits in the final inning when they scored all four of their runs. Sandra Rosenberg and Anni Prideaux both went 3-for-4 for Racine Lutheran, which improved to 20-8. Hurley closed out its season at 17-7.

In the Division-Three semi-finals, Peshtigo scored six runs in the first inning this afternoon to hand Lancaster its first loss. The final was 9-3. Caitlin Wenzel struck out 15 to get the win for Peshtigo, which improved to 20-and-4. Lancaster ended its campaign at 24-1. Arcadia was set to take on Winnebago Lutheran in the other D-Three semi late this afternoon. The Division-Two semis are scheduled for tonight. Defending champion Luxemburg-Casco plays fort Atkinson, and Rice Lake faces Union Grove. Title games in four divisions are set for tomorrow.
