MILWAUKEE - The NBA’s free agent negotiating period began at 11:01 last night. The Milwaukee Bucks won’t be among the big shoppers, since they don’t have a lot of salary cap room.

Their biggest challenge will be to keep shooting guard John Salmons, who turned down an option for $5.8 million dollars for next season and became a free agent. The Bucks still hope they can re-sign the 30-year-old Salmons, who averaged almost 20 points a game after being traded to Milwaukee in February from Chicago.

Meanwhile, the Bucks decided yesterday to keep small forward Carlos Delfino, and pay his full $3.5 million salary for next season. The Bucks had the option to nullify the second year of Delfino’s contract, which had a half-million dollars in guaranteed money.
