Grand slam pushes Rays past Twins

- The Tampa Bay Rays top the Twins with one swing, a Mike Joyce pinch hit grand slam.

A grand slam by Mike Joyce blew open the game in a seven-run eighth inning, as Tampa Bay outslugged Minnesota 8-6 despite two home runs by veteran DH Jim Thome.

Justin Verlander allowed just one run and struck out 10 in seven innings of work, leading Detroit past Seattle 6-1 and into a tie with Minnesota for first place in the American League Central.

Tommy Hunter pushed his record to 5-0 as Texas beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1. The other Chicago team, the Cubs, won by the same score. Randy Wells hadn't notched a win in his last 11 starts, but did Saturday afternoon against the Reds.
