- Twins a little closer to top of AL Central after 6-0 win over Cleveland
The Twins are a little closer to the top of the AL Central standings after first-place Chicago had its two-game winning streak snapped last night in Seattle.
Franklin Gutierrez hit a two-run single off White Sox closer Bobby Jenks in the 11th inning to give the Mariners the 2-1 win. It was the second time this week Jenks has failed to hold a lead. On Sunday, he blew the save and was tagged with the loss in the Twins' comeback win at Target Field.
The Twins broke a two-game losing streak yesterday afternoon with a 6-0 win over Cleveland behind seven shutout innings by Francisco Liriano. Delmon Young drove in three runs and Anthony Slama made his major league debut with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
The Twins are 2 1/2 games behind the first-place White Sox and tonight open a four-game series at Baltimore with Carl Pavano on the mound against Kevin Millwood.
