Mbakwe cleared to play hoops for Gophers this fall
Minnesota Sports- University of Minnesota basketball player Trevor Mbakwe has been fully reinstated to the team's roster.
MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota basketball player Trevor Mbakwe has been fully reinstated to the team's roster.
Mbakwe had been serving a suspension since prior to last season while an assault charge in Florida was proceeding through the court system. The courts in Miami yesterday came to an agreement with Mbakwe that all charges will be dropped if he completes a pre-trial intervention program and 100 hours of community service.
Mbakwe has publicly maintained his innocence throughout the situation and the agreement is not an admission of guilt nor is it a plea bargain. Gopher athletics director Joel Maturi says Mbakwe's reinstatement makes the power forward eligible to practice with the team and play in games.
