MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins won over Oakland 4-2 to sweep the A's in a weekend series.

Kevin Slowey had a no-hitter going through seven innings, but manager Ron Gardenhire benched him after he threw 106 pitches. Slowey walked three and struck out five as he improved to 11-5.

The Twins fans lustily booed manager Ron Gardenhire when he came to the mound to remove John Rausch who allowed the first Oakland hits of the day in the eighth inning. Gardenhire had inserted Rausch to start the inning while Kevin Slowey was tossing a no-hitter. Gardenhire told reporters after the game that he would have booed, too, but he was not going to risk the health of Slowey. He stood by his call but understood why the fans showed their displeasure.

The Twins extended their American League Central division lead to three games over the Chicago White Sox.
