RED WING - Don’t be alarmed if you see emergency vehicles today at the Prairie Island nuclear power plant at the Wisconsin-Minnesota border at Red Wing. The public safety department in the Gopher State will conduct an emergency response drill that’s supposed to last several hours.

The purpose is to be ready to handle real emergencies as quickly and efficiently as possible. Public safety official Doug Neville says the drill will take place both in-and-around the Prairie Island plant.

Regular traffic will not be blocked off – but Neville says motorists should be aware that emergency crews will operate in the area.
