Former U-W Stevens Point pitcher Jordan Zimmermann served up Albert Pujols’ 400th career homer last night, as the Saint Louis Cardinals lost at Washington 11-10 in 13 innings.
Zimmermann, a right-hander from Auburndale, was making his first start in a year for the Nationals after having Tommy John elbow surgery.
He served up a 0-and-1 fastball to Pujols as he led off the fourth inning. And it landed in the right field seats as Pujols became the third-youngest player to hit 400 homers, and the 47th overall to do so.
Zimmermann, a second-year big leaguer, lasted four innings and escaped with a no-decision. He gave up five runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
