Colledge named left guard for regular season

Green Bay Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy made it official yesterday, and named Daryn Colledge as the starting left guard for the regular season.

Colledge, a fifth-year pro, kept the job after competing with first-round rookie Bryan Bulaga. They alternated snaps in the first two pre-season games – but Bulaga hurt his chances when a nagging hip flexor injury kept him out for the last week.

Colledge said he had his best training camp, and he was determined not to lose his job to Bulaga even if the rookie had been healthy. The Packer offensive line is now set for the beginning of the season. The first-string has not allowed a sack in four-and-a-half quarters of exhibition play. Meanwhile, starting defensive end Cullen Jenkins missed practice again yesterday with a pull in one of his calves. He sat out last Thursday’s win over Indianapolis. And Jenkins could miss this Thursday night’s exhibition finale at Kansas City in order to make sure he’s ready for the regular season. Also, kick returner Will Blackmon missed practice with problems from his surgically-repaired knee.
