Twins strengthen hold on AL Central with win over Tigers

Michael Cuddyer led off the frame and stole second as Delmon Young struck out. Valencia followed with a base hit to center to score Cuddyer. Jose Morales had a sac-fly in the fifth for Minnesota, which remains four games ahead of Chicago atop the AL Central. Jon Rauch got the win in relief of starter Francisco Liriano, who pitched seven innings of five-hit shutout ball.

Ryan Perry took the loss for Detroit. Starter Max Scherzer struck out nine over nine innings of one-run ball in a no-decision. Jhonny Peralta singled in the lone run in the eighth to tie the game for Detroit.

Scott Baker will be on the mound in the series finale tonight. The Tigers will counter with Justin Verlander. First-pitch is at 7:10 p.m.
