Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail will soon be a little longer, thanks to the help of volunteers in Marathon County.
A three-mile stretch of the national scenic trail is being created in a remote part of the Plover River State Fishery Area east of Wausau. Dick Pernsteiner says it will give hikers and anglers more access to the river and its trout fish. He recently smoothed out a patch for the new trail extension. And starting tomorrow, 70 volunteers from throughout Wisconsin will clear brush, create a solid flat trail, and build structures to serve it.
Crews will meet Thursday through Sunday mornings at a base in Marathon County’s Dells-of-the-Eau Claire Park. Pernsteiner says new recruits are welcome.
