Delmon Young had three hits and scored twice, as the Twins extended their lead in the American League Central to nine games over the second-place White Sox, with a magic number of eight to clinch. And they improved to a Major League-best 42-16 since the All-Star break.
Carl Pavano got the win, despite giving up five runs in five-plus innings. He’s now 17-11. Mark Buehrle took the loss, giving up six runs in five frames. He’s 12-11. Paul Konerko, who was hit on the lip by a pitch in his first at-bat, homered later on for Chicago.
