MADISON - Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Doeren is making a number of adjustments to make up for the loss of linebacker Chris Borland.
Last year’s Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Year is out for the season, after he re-injured his left shoulder last Saturday against Arizona State. Borland was a key in both the Badgers’ basic defense, and their nickel package on passing downs. Senior Blake Sorenson will take Borland’s place in the base package, with Culmer Saint Jean and Mike Taylor as the other linebackers. Also, junior Kevin Claxton can expect to get more playing time in the base package. In the nickel package, red-shirt freshman A.J. Fenton was Borland’s replacement as an outside rusher the last two weeks. He has yet to get a sack. Also, Doeren says defensive end David Gilbert will get more playing time in the nickel set-up.
The Badgers are 3-0 as they get ready to host Austin Peay on Saturday. The kick-off is at 11 a.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
