Golden Gophers may switch place kickers to walk-on from Wisconsin

MINNEAPOLIS - Golden Gopher football coach Tim Brewster says he is opening up the competition for the starting kicker job on this team.

Senior Eric Ellestad of Brookly Park has struggled this season already missing three field goal attempts and kicking several balls out of bounds on kickoffs. Brewster says Ellestad is a life-long Gopher fan who may be placing too much pressure on himself. The coach would like to see his kicker play more relaxed.

In the meantime, Brewster says walk-on kicker David Schwerman of Kettle Moraine, Wisconsin will get his chance to earn the job this week in practice. The Gophers host Northern Illinois on Saturday at 7 p.m.
