Panther boys win first place at BRF Invite; girls 8th; Taplin takes second
In a good sign of things to come for the Ellsworth High School boys' cross country team, the Panthers took first place out of 14 school at Tuesday's Black River Falls Invitational at Skyline Golf Course, beating many of the opponents they will face in the sectional meet in two weeks
BLACK RIVER FALLS - In a good sign of things to come for the Ellsworth High School boys' cross country team, the Panthers took first place out of 14 school at Tuesday's Black River Falls Invitational at Skyline Golf Course, beating many of the opponents they will face in the sectional meet in two weeks
Ellsworth scored 56 points led by Ike Taplin's second place in the 5K race with a time of 17:07.
Jaylen Pavloski ran a personal best and took fourth in the race (17:26). Matt Priest finished in ninth place with a time of 19:06.
Without its No. 2 runner, Becca Matzek out with illness, EHS' girls' team still accumulated 126 points and finished in eighth place.
Kennedy Kowalchyk was the first Ellsworth runner to cross the finish line. She took eighth place with a time of 17:30. Cassie Lofgren finish 18th in 18:11.
Ellsworth will join with Prescott to compete in Satuday's Arcadia Invitational at Schultz Farm. Schultz Farm will be the site of this year's WIAA Division 2 Arcadia Sectional meet on Oct. 23 starting at 11:30 a.m.
