HELSINKI - Brandon Sutter's second marker of the day proved to be the difference as the Carolina Hurricanes opened the 2010-11 NHL season with a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild in Helsinki, Finland yesterday.
Jussi Jokinen scored a power play goal and added an assist while Anton Babchuk had Carolina's other goal. Cam Ward made 26 saves as the 'Canes took the first of two against the Wild overseas. Guillaume Latendresse, Matt Cullen and Brent Burns lit the lamp for Minnesota. Niklas Backstrom allowed all four goals while making 27 saves.
The teams will wrap up their stay in Europe Friday with the back-end of the set.
